Since we all know they don’t make smartphones that will withstand any sort of adventure, (G-Shock’s “Absolute Toughness” could change all of that) there is a lucrative market for protective phone cases. From pink bunnies to clear, adhesive slip on, most cases do little if anything to protect the most important part of a smartphone, the screen. Case-Mate’s Tank officially changes that. Apparently having been outdoors more than once in their lives, the case makers saw the need for a heavy-duty all-encompassing case, thus calling upon super tough polycarbonate to form a resilient exterior shell coupled with a silicone lining to create one rugged piece of hardware. The tough makeup is great but it’s not even the best part. Now what really sets this case apart is it’s polypropylene retractable screen, a one of a kind design that easily slides to cover your smartphone’s screen, greatly reducing impact damage. The only drawback of the case is that with today’s obsession to make everything as small as possible, some might find the Tank moniker rings a little too true. Personally, we would rather have a hefty case that looks more at home in the mountains than in a business meeting but we know that doesn’t hold true for everyone.
