Teddy Roosevelt liked Mint Juleps and used fresh mint from the White House garden muddled with a splash of water a sugar cube along with rye whiskey and brandy.
Learn how to make the Perfect Mint Julep
Making the perfect Mint Julep is quite easy. You will need a few ingredients though first.
- Fresh Mint
- Kentucky Bourbon
- Mint Simple Syrup
- Crushed Ice
You’ll need to prepare the mint simply syrup ahead of time. Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water for five minutes.
Cool and place syrup in a cover container with 6 to 8 sprigs of fresh mint and refrigerate overnight.
Fill a julep cup (cooper or silver if you please) with crushed ice, cubes won’t do, 1 tablespoon of mint syrup and 2 ounces of Kentucky Bourbon.
Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and enjoy the race!
