Winter grilling is not as simple as just throwing a few burgers on the grill and braving the elements. Not everyone is going to want to gril outdoors during the Winter when it’s 10 below but if you are one of those people, let us give you some ideas to get your winter grilling on!
Clean out the snow around your grilling area to help you preheat the grill efficiently and prevent slippery conditions.
Let the grill warm up for about 5 minutes longer than usual. With colder temperatures, it takes longer to heat the air in and around the grill so make sure you give yourself that extra time.
Avoid windy conditions and look for a grilling space near a windbreak of some kind. The wind will blow the heat away and you need to try to contain it.
Keep the grill lid closed as much as possible. Every time you open the lid to the grill, cold air rushes into the cooking space and then you may need to build up the fire again once the lid is closed again.
Dress for the weather and avoid fabrics that hang down such as scarfs that could catch fire.
